My Journey

My journey to the discovery of 3D Printing started my sophomore year of high school where I took a CAD class as an elective. As I began to learn the software my ideas and fascination with this technology started to flourished. To put those ideas into action, I downloaded the software at home to practice as well as began researching where 3D printing was at. Due to my personal financial state, being only 16, my ideas had to be put on hold.

After graduating high school, I decided to study Civil Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. My decision to study engineering was partly based on my love to solve problems and my strong math IQ. By my first semester I was already enrolled in a CAD class. Nonetheless, I had to take matters into my own hands and figure out a plan to acquire a printer. To be able to afford a 3D printer I had to some way come up with $400. My idea was to purchase Wii Game Lots on Ebay for as cheap as possible and resell each individual game for a profit. Within about 2-2.5 months I had netted around $600. Although I had made enough money to purchase the printer my freshman year of college, it wasn't until my sophomore year that I physically purchased it.

I purchased the printer through Amazon and couldn't be any more anxious to open it when it arrived. After carrying what felt like a 75 pound weight across campus, I opened it up plugged it in and instantly started printing. In addition to the printer there were so many different colors of filament to use. There were blues and whites and oranges and reds and many more that I just had to have them all.

My journey with 3D printing has only been filled with happiness and problem-solving. I've saved people money, fascinated people with the technology, and overall just had a great time learning more and more everyday.

In July of 2020, I've purchased my second 3D printer and due to new functions and commands I was able to produce cooler and more complex models.

​

In September of 2020, I'd purchased my third 3D printer and things are getting serious. I can now work and create bigger projects without the factor of time standing in the way. Time is money and due to this purchase I can now be more efficient than ever.

In December of 2021, I purchased my fourth 3D printer and efficiency is getting better.  

​

In January of 2022, I purchased now what will be my fifth 3D printer. This printer is a cantilever style printer with mesh bed leveling sensor. This purchase was mainly due to reliability and quality of prints.

​

One of my goals for creating this website, Nate’s 3D Printing Creations, is to personally remind myself of where I started, in terms of 3D printing, and look at where I am now. I want to continue to create new models that would not only be beneficial to me but to others. Another goal of mine is to keep family, friends, or really anyone interested in 3D printing updated at where I am and the progress I'm making. Come be a part of my journey as I continue to strive to make a difference in the world by the knowledge I have and continue to learn.
